Day 27 | WISE WORDS AND THE RIGHTEOUS
40 Days of WISDOM
Day 27 | WISE WORDS AND THE RIGHTEOUS
WISE WORDS AND THE RIGHTEOUS
Psalm 37:28-31
“For the Lord loves the just and will not forsake his faithful ones. Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. The mouths of the righteous utter wisdom, and their tongues speak what is just. The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.”
What comes out of a person’s mouth says much about that person. Good or bad, harsh or gentle, fearful or faith-filled, what most occupies that person’s mind (or heart) tends to come out of that person’s mouth. “Out of the abundance of the heart the mouth speaks,” Jesus taught in Matt 12:34.
King David – the human author of Psalm 37 – tells us that the righteous man or woman is noted for their wise and just words. That would include kind, loving, encouraging, hope-filled words and MORE.
So what does it take to speak those kind of words?
Well, let me parallel this to learning a foreign language. What does that take? It takes study, practice, perhaps a tutor and, ideally, being around people who speak the language you want to learn.
So, to learn to speak God-inspired words that will help the hearer, takes study (of God’s Word), practice, perhaps a tutor (someone who can help point you in the right direction) AND being around people who speak words of faith, hope, and love. (That’s ONE great benefit of being connected to a God-honoring, loving church family.)
But then you might ask, “Is it worth it?” Is spending time in God’s Word, being around other Believers, worshipping with them, and all the rest worth it?
Read again: “Wrongdoers will be completely destroyed; the offspring of the wicked will perish. The righteous will inherit the land and dwell in it forever. The law of their God is in their hearts; their feet do not slip.”
Prayer: LORD, I desire to speak words of wisdom, Your words. Teach me daily to use my words in ways that You lead. Amen.
