Day  25 | THE PSALM OF MOSES
THE PSALM OF MOSES

Psalm 90:12
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”
(NIV)

Moses? Yes… that Moses. The one who met with God face to face on the mountain.  The one who received the 10 Commandments on the stone tablets. And this is the only psalm we have from him. So, what does Moses have to say to us from 3300 years ago?

Choices and Time.

We each have the freedom to make choices every day. Usually, we can choose what we eat, who we talk to, where we go, what we do, what we watch or listen to, and much more. We can also choose to read God’s Word or not. CHOICE is one of the greatest gifts God has given us.

And Moses – who truly knew God – wants us to “number our days.”

Moses says that LIFE is shorter than you think.

Another version says, “Teach us how short our life is …”

Why?  So “that we may gain a heart of wisdom.”

KJV says “that we may apply our hearts unto wisdom.”

The Amplified says: "That we may cultivate and bring to You a heart of wisdom."

So, Moses – the man whom God trusted to meet face-to-face, to whom was given the 10 Commandments, was put in charge of the millions of Israelites, who wrote Bible, and much more – is encouraging us through this ancient text to be aware of how short life is and apply ourselves during our lives to the acquisition of Godly wisdom.

Deuteronomy tells us that Moses was 120 years old when he died. With Moses having talked to God directly on many occasions, for him to suggest that we need to apply ourselves to gaining Godly wisdom should get our attention.

So, how do we do that?

God’s Word. Our Bibles are full of God’s wisdom. We don’t need a burning bush… we just need the “smarts” to pick up the Book regularly, read and study it, and ask the LORD for help in gaining Godly wisdom.

Prayer: LORD, help me develop a wise heart. Amen.
