Genesis 1:1
“In the beginning, God created the heavens and the earth.”

Have you ever considered what you must know to be truly wise?   What is THE most important piece of wisdom?  In this series thus far, we have been looking at Scripture verses about wisdom from God to mankind through various human authors such as Solomon.

But is there one verse that is more important than any other?

Today’s verse – IMHO – is THAT verse, THE most important verse.   Yes, many other verses are fantastic and super important, such as John 3:16,  But this is about GOD, and wisdom and understanding all start with God.  If you can accept this verse that God is, you have an excellent chance of believing Jesus Christ and all He has taught us and all He did.

Frankly, it’s hard to comprehend God.  I mean, how do you describe the infinite?  I heard of a seminary writing project in which the theology students were tasked with writing an essay describing God.  What would you say?  How do you explain God: the eternal, the infinite, the all-knowing, the all-powerful, the everywhere-present God?  It would be like asking my dog to describe my car; it is beyond her.  My dog can smell the car and ride in the car, but my dog doesn’t comprehend the car.

Nor do we fully comprehend God.

So then, we accept it and believe it by faith.  We believe that God is, was, and always will be.  We believe that all that is – the heavens and the earth – were created by this all-powerful, all-knowing, all-wise Creator God.  If you believe in the “big bang beginning” of the universe, then God was the Big Banger, the ONE that caused the BANG.

And if we wish to be wise, we must believe that GOD was “in the beginning.”  Without God as our foundation, studying wisdom is a study of human platitudes.  Without that foundation, nothing else makes sense.  When we believe, we open the door to true wisdom from the One Almighty God and Creator of everything.

Prayer: LORD, I bow before You, the Creator of everything.  Thank You for your love for me. Amen.
