Day  23 | THANKFUL HEARTS
THANKFUL HEARTS

Colossians 3:16
“Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts.”

Since the time of the early church in the Book of Acts, some churches have had squabbles about how they should be run. In a few cases, some of these quarrels turned into arguments that actually split the church.

And then, we come to this writing by the Apostle Paul to the Colossians.

Have you ever read a Scripture that was difficult to apply? (And I’m sure we all have.) Well, this verse does NOT seem like one of those! (Reread it.)

Now, think about how wise it would be if EVERY church practiced this verse.

For one, those practicing churches would be JOYFUL places to attend! The people would display an attitude of gratitude, and there would be lots of singing! Additionally, there would be good, wise teaching and counsel. Altogether, our church life and our daily lives would be complete!

In John 10:10, we read Jesus’ words: “The enemy comes but to kill, steal and destroy, but I have come that you might have life abundantly!” Doesn’t a  Colossians 3:16 church sound like that kind of church?

“Let the message of Christ dwell in you richly …”

Dwelling in wisdom – means living continuously in wisdom. This is not a once-a-week thing, but an every Sunday, every day, all the time thing.

But, it’s also a CHOICE.

We can choose to follow these inspired words of Colossians 3:16 or not. And unfortunately, many Christians choose NOT. Decisions have consequences, and choosing NOT, in this case, increases the sarcasm from non-Christians towards the church in general AND decreases the JOY of those IN that church.

So, take note. Look for ways to be more thankful and LIVE today’s verse.

Prayer: Heavenly Father, thank You for offering us so much. Help me help others who know You to DO this verse for Your honor, glory, and our benefit. Amen.
