40 Days of WISDOM
Day 21| DO YOURSELF A FAVOR
40 Days of WISDOM
Day 21| DO YOURSELF A FAVOR
DO YOURSELF A FAVOR:
GOD’S WISDOM AND LOVE LEARNING
from Proverbs 19
“1 It is better to be poor and honest than to be foolish and tell lies. Enthusiasm without knowledge is not good. If you act too quickly, you might make a mistake. People’s own foolishness ruins their lives, but in their minds they blame the Lord.”
“8 Those who get wisdom do themselves a favor, and those who love learning will succeed.”
“21 People can make all kinds of plans, only the Lord’s plan will happen.”
“23 Those who respect the Lord will live and be satisfied, unbothered by trouble.” (NCV)
The book of Proverbs is briming with wisdom from the LORD. In these selected verses we learn many important life lessons… and they should be obvious to all. But alas, today, few seem interested in Godly wisdom and would rather do life per the song, “I did it my way.”
Fools are continually scorned by God. Being HONEST is a virtue… and a requirement for being wise.
Being enthusiastic – seemingly a good trait – is NOT good if you act too quickly and without knowing what you’re doing or why. Mistakes can be costly.
How many people have turned their lives into a train-wreck by choosing to do something foolish?
Solomon reminds us here that getting wisdom is doing ourselves a favor and that to love learning the things of God will help us succeed in life.
But God also reminds us that only the plans HE makes will succeed. So, we need to align our thinking with His.
And finally, “respecting the Lord” will garner a satisfied life for the one who does.
Another translation of verse 23 – “The fear of the Lord leads to life, so that one may sleep satisfied, untouched by evil.”
What a comfort!
Prayer: LORD, help me to learn Your wisdom and then to put it into practice in my life. Thank You. Amen.
