Day  16 | BUILD YOUR HOUSE ON SOLID ROCK
BUILD YOUR HOUSE ON SOLID ROCK

Matthew 7:24-27
“Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock. But anyone who hears my teaching and doesn't obey it is foolish, like a person who builds a house on sand. When the rains and floods come and the winds beat against that house, it will collapse with a mighty crash.”
(NLT)

Most people who have ever been to Sunday School or church know of this teaching by Jesus about the wise man building his house upon the rock. Jesus said this at the end of his famous "Sermon on the Mount" and refers to all the wise teachings He gave there.

Again, the LORD makes it a simple two-choice decision: follow his teachings (the wise thing to do) or NOT (the foolish thing to do).

But then he paints a word picture… one which his listeners would clearly understand. One house is built on solid rock and the other on shifting sand. In good times, both would probably be good houses in which to live. But, given bad weather, torrential rain, and the ensuing problems… only the house built on solid rock would survive.

Bringing that word-picture into the 21st century, we see many "rainstorms" pounding our world today. It's not literal rain as much as a storm of words, ideas, censoring, power trips, lies, wars, rumors of war… and much more. Those "rainstorms" are coming down in torrents, the floodwaters are rising, and the winds are fierce.

So, listen again to Jesus: “Anyone who listens to my teaching and follows it is wise, like a person who builds a house on solid rock. Though the rain comes in torrents and the floodwaters rise and the winds beat against that house, it won't collapse because it is built on bedrock."

Prayer: Lord, help me to be wise and help me “build my house” on the solid rock of your Word. Amen.
