AVOID TODAY’S POPULAR WISDOM

1 Corinthians 3:18-20
“Let no one deceive himself. If anyone among you thinks that he is wise in this age, let him become a fool [discarding his worldly pretensions and acknowledging his lack of wisdom], so that he may become [truly] wise. For the wisdom of this world is foolishness (absurdity, stupidity) before God; for it is written [in Scripture], ‘[He is] The one who catches the wise and clever in their craftiness;’ and again, ‘The Lord knows the thoughts of the [humanly] wise, that they are useless.’”
  (AMP)

More so than ever in my memory, things are upside down and inside out today. Many politicians, educators, and others in responsible positions – who should know better – are proclaiming the false to be truth and evil to be right. And millions of people – like blind sheep going to slaughter – are saying “yea, verily” and believing those lies. It’s beyond comprehension.

But apparently, this was also common in 1st-century Corinth. Paul, therefore, was writing to warn and condemn those in the Corinthian Church (often called the “arm-pit” of the New Testament), urging them NOT to follow that common, worldly wisdom which he also calls “foolishness” (absurdity, stupidity) before God. Further, Paul says that the thoughts of the “humanly wise” are useless, and he calls them “fools.” Indeed, strong but clear language from the Apostle.

So, where DO you go for Godly truth and wisdom that will help you navigate the broken world we live in?  The Bible, aka the Word of God.

King David said this about God’s Word: “Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”  (Psalm 119:105)

As Believers, we must align our thinking, talking, and living with God’s Word.

So, stay close to the LORD in prayer. Get into His Word daily – if only for a couple of minutes. Ask Him to open your eyes to what is happening in the world around you; and don’t be persuaded by the fools out there but follow HIM and HIS WORD… and be wise.

Prayer: LORD, please help me live my life in a wise way in Your eyes. Amen.
