Day 10 - 40 Days of WISDOM

40 Days of WISDOM
Day 10 | A HEART OF WISDOM
40 Days of WISDOM
Day 10 | A HEART OF WISDOM
A HEART OF WISDOM
Psalm 90:12,17
“Teach us to number our days, that we may gain a heart of wisdom. May the favor of the Lord our God rest on us; establish the work of our hands for us— yes, establish the work of our hands.”
Years ago, I remember my wife and I watching the movie “Fame.” It was about a young dancer who wanted to be famous. The title song from that movie was “Fame,” and had this line in it: “I’m going to live forever …” (Well, actually, that is TRUE – eternal life – but that’s not what the character was trying to communicate.)
Many today – no matter their age – are NOT worried about tomorrow and live as though they ARE going to “live forever.” Many don’t appear to care about how they drive, what they eat or drink, how they live, or anything, as they figure their life – as it is now – will last forever.
Of course, as we mature, we realize that is not really how life works.
Moses, wise from life and God, wrote this psalm (song), which the children of Israel probably sang back then. The timing of this writing may have been just after his beloved sister Miriam passed away, and he was faced with her, his, and everyone’s mortality.
Moses encourages us to value (or number) our days and use them well. He wisely shares that time (and life) flies faster than we realize. Thus, we need to be using our time living and working in a way that pleases the Lord and gains His favor.
A British missionary of old, CT Studd, said it well years ago when he wrote these two little but powerful lines:
“Only one life, ’twill soon be past,
Only what’s done for Christ will last.”
Prayer: LORD, help me appreciate EVERY day You give me. I am thankful for ALL you have done for me. Lead me to use my time wisely and in ways that cause You to smile. Amen.
