Day 9 | THE VALUE OF WISE GUIDANCE
THE VALUE OF WISE GUIDANCE
Proverbs 24:3-6
“Through [skillful and godly] wisdom a house [a life, a home, a family] is built, And by understanding it is established [on a sound and good foundation], And by knowledge, its rooms are filled with all precious and pleasant riches. A wise man is strong, and a man of knowledge strengthens his power; For by wise guidance you can wage your war, and in an abundance of [wise] counselors there is victory and safety.” (AMP)
We are all a little self-centered and self-confident at times. I suppose that was part of how our parents raised us… and that’s not bad.
But, because we are full of SELF, we sometimes – when a child or even as an adult – shy away from anyone telling us what to do, even if they have good suggestions.
That old Frank Sinatra song comes to mind with the chorus line, “I faced it all, and I stood tall and did it my way!”
True, none of us raised our children to be so dependent on us that they are incapable of making good decisions, getting a job, or getting married and raising a family. But… there are times when we all need to be open to the wisdom of a “multitude of wise counselors.”
Let me ask, who do you have that is close to you and you will listen to if they have a suggestion? Who can you ask for feedback about a decision you’re facing? How would you evaluate them on the purely subjective “wise counselor scale” ?
In the early days of the church, and today as well, they prayed together. The reason for that was to be both encouraging AND to provide feedback and “counsel” to anyone in the group facing a challenge.
We are all facing something, but when the chips are down, the situation tense, and the decision critical, do YOU have someone who can pray with you and give you feedback as they are led?
Prayer: LORD, help me value my close friends and family, especially those who are wise and can share Godly wisdom with me occasionally. Amen.
