Day 6 | WHERE REAL WISDOM BEGINS
WHERE REAL WISDOM BEGINS
Proverbs 9:10
“The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.”
Life can be confusing. No person alive knows every twist and turn in the road of life and thus can sometimes make errant turns and demonstrate poor behavior.
Thus, our need – hopefully, our desire – for God’s wisdom.
Perhaps you are asking, “What is wisdom?”
The dictionary says wisdom is “common sense, good judgment, the ability to discern or judge what is true, proper, or lasting; insight.”
The Bible teaches that wisdom is more profound than most think… useful, valuable, and rare.
We also learn that the LORD God wants His followers to have wisdom and He offers it to all who ask. Most today – including believers – don’t ask. Perhaps it’s because they don’t want God’s wisdom and would – like a two-year-old trying to tie his shoes – “rather do it myself.”
True wisdom is foreign to the natural man, who doesn’t believe in God anyway. But for Believers, we should realize the fantastic Source of wisdom that we have… Almighty God Himself. And WHO would know more about how life works and the answer to perplexing life problems than the Creator of the universe, God?
Now, the big issue: “The FEAR of the Lord…” Really? Fear?
It’s hard to understand our need to have a FEAR of the LORD when we in Christ see the Lord as being loving and kind and long-suffering and so much more.
I like explaining that if you were driving on the highway and suddenly you saw a RED light in your mirror, what would you feel? Fear?
Why? Do you personally dislike the Officer? (No). Do you hate the police? (No).
We FEAR having been caught speeding or something, right? And He CAN issue a ticket. But even with that, you probably respect the police officer and appreciate his service to the community, right? (I certainly do.)
Wisdom begins with our fear, awe, respect, and reverence of our Holy God.
Prayer: LORD GOD, I love you, respect and fear you. Please pour your wisdom on me so that I might live successfully in this world today. Amen.
