Day 35 | FILLED WITH JOY
FILLED WITH JOY
Acts 2:28
“You have made known to me the paths of life; you will fill me with joy in your presence.”
Who do you enjoy spending time with? Perhaps a close friend, a spouse, a child? And when you get together with this other person, do you plan precisely what you’re going to do – or do things just sort of flow?
This verse from Acts 2 was from a sermon that the Apostle Peter was preaching on what we call the Day of Pentecost. The Holy Spirit has come to Jesus’ disciples. They were emboldened to preach fearlessly to Jerusalem, in the place and to the very people who had crucified Jesus shortly before.
And this verse in Acts is Peter quoting David in Psalm 16.
Another translation of this verse says it this way: “For you have revealed to me the pathways to life, and seeing your face fills me with euphoria!’
This Greek word for euphoria (euphrosune) occurs only here and in Acts 14:17. It is the spirit of joy, an ecstasy that comes from God. The Aramaic is “You will fill me, O Sweetness, with your presence.”
My wife and I spend quality time like this together nearly every day. It is just what we do and it’s part of our routine. It is comfortable and enjoyable.
We ALL should also spend time like that with the LORD every day too. Time just talking, listening, thinking and reading His Word, pondering and meditating, and just enjoying being with HIM.
And what’s the outcome of that kind of time with the LORD?
“And the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.” (Philippians 4:7, NKJV)
Prayer: LORD, I need that peace, your peace to guard my heart and my mind. So much is going on in my life, in the world. Remind me daily to spend some quality time with You. Amen.
