A JOYOUS ATTITUDE
Habakkuk 3:17-19
“Though the fig tree does not bud and there are no grapes on the vines, though the olive crop fails and the fields produce no food, though there are no sheep in the pen and no cattle in the stalls, yet I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior. The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
Here, the prophet Habakkuk was telling us the proper attitude to have during difficult times. And how relevant is that today?! You know full well that we are going through some tough times right now.
Years ago, pastor Robert Schuller wrote a book entitled, “Tough Times Never Last, but Tough People Do.” The fact is… tough times come and go – as do good times. “The rain falls on the just and the unjust.” (Matthew 5:45)
So, let me ask, what is your relationship with Almighty God as we continue to endure today’s problems – including the slow eroding by the government of our liberties and freedoms?
Are you upset at God, or can you say – as Habakkuk did – that even in the tough times (and ours may get worse), “I will rejoice in the LORD, I will be joyful in God my Savior.”
Habakkuk goes on to say, “The Sovereign LORD is my strength; he makes my feet like the feet of a deer, he enables me to tread on the heights.”
Are you walking on the heights? Are you keeping your emotions subordinate to your knowledge that YOU are a child of God and someday will be with Him forever in heaven?
If nothing else, rejoice in that!
Prayer: LORD, I am thankful that I have a real, permanent relationship with you. My sins are forgiven, and someday, I’ll be in heaven with you and NO PROBLEMS at all. Please help me always to remember this and to stop my whining. Amen.
