Day 33 | GREAT JOY AND TRUTH
GREAT JOY AND TRUTH
3 John 3:3-4
“It gave me great joy when some believers came and testified about your faithfulness to the truth, telling how you continue to walk in it. I have no greater joy than to hear that my children are walking in the truth.”
The Apostle John is an old man when he writes this section of Scripture. He is also the “last apostle standing,” as all the others had died. So, when he wrote this, he was addressing “the CHURCH” everywhere.
When I think about John, my mind immediately goes to John 3:16, John 1:1, John 10:10 and a few more of the most familiar sections that John wrote years before.
So here he is, writing to Christians everywhere and reflecting on the Good Report that he heard about the Believers who were steadfast in their speaking the TRUTH and walking in it.
TRUTH. Pilate asked Jesus – at Jesus’ trial - “What is truth?” It was an issue then… and it is an issue TODAY.
Identifying TRUTH today is becoming increasingly difficult. There seem to be conflicting opinions and voices every day about every topic. And, as we have mostly become a society that looks primarily to “the internet” for information, finding truth there is becoming the proverbial “needle in the haystack.” Especially compounded by certain Big Tech companies deciding what they think is truth and preventing the exposure to ideas of those with whom they don’t agree.
So, here’s my tip for today. Listen to and focus on what Jesus prayed to His Father in what is truly The Lord’s prayer: “Sanctify them in the truth; Your word is truth.” (John 17:17, NASB)
At the end of the day, God’s WORD is the ONLY sure thing that we can call TRUTH. It never fails.
Prayer: Thank You Lord for the Word of God. Your Word is truth, no matter what the world or the internet may say. I can base my life on it. Amen.
