Day 19 | JOY AND FAITHFULNESS
JOY AND FAITHFULNESS
Matthew 25:21
“Well done, good and faithful servant; you have been faithful over a few things. I will make you ruler over many things, enter into the joy of your Lord.”
Jesus taught in parables, and this one, the “Parable of the Talents,” is one of the more well known.
Over the years, my wife and I have raised a variety of puppies. Each puppy – most often golden retrievers – grows rapidly and learns fast.
We start with little things like: “sit,” “come,” “place,” and “down.” And when they do things right, there’s a “treat” involved. They LOVE the treats – be they ever so small – and seem like a bundle of happiness when they get a treat or are praised by us.
Conversely, when they disobey, there is no treat, and depending on the infraction, there may be a sharp “NO” voiced as well. They do NOT like hearing “no” and exhibit contrition and doggy apologies when they miss the mark.
Now we are NOT dogs but must still LEARN from our LORD how to live, how to pray, how to have faith, and many other things that the born-again follower of Jesus must learn to have a full and abundant life.
Remember this: Jesus said, “I have said these things so that my joy might be in you and that your joy might be full.”
In His Parable of the Talents, Jesus was teaching the need for the servant to be faithful over whatever he had. To use what he had wisely and in an appropriate way. And when he got it right – as he did in the verse above – that steward was made the “ruler over many things” and able to “enter the joy of your LORD.”
Prayer: LORD, I long to hear – one day – you say to me, “Well done, good and faithful servant.” Help me LORD, to live my life in such a way that I qualify for those words from You. Amen.”
