Day 12 | RESTORING YOUR JOY
RESTORING YOUR JOY
Psalm 51:12
“Restore to me the joy of Your salvation, and make me willing to obey You.” (NLT)
Today, many people are walking around upset, sad, angry, frustrated, worried, fearful, and more. The reasons vary, but the result is the same: lots of hurts and no joy. Sometimes the pain comes from others, sometimes the pain comes from guilt because of something we’ve done.
Psalm 51 and Psalm 32 were written by David after his affair with Bathsheba and his murdering her husband, Uriah (2 Samuel 11-12). Psalm 51 is one of 7 psalms called the “penitent psalms” (6, 32, 38, 51, 102, 130, 143).
To David’s credit, he recognized fully how horrendous his sin was, blamed no one but himself, and begged for divine forgiveness.
Since all of us are imperfect, I’m certain there have been times in your life (maybe even now?) where you have needed forgiveness from the LORD of the universe (and perhaps from another person as well). My encouragement to you is: JUST DO IT. Ask the offended party – and the LORD – for forgiveness, and then ask the LORD to restore to you and fill you with the JOY that He wants you to have! Just as you wouldn’t put freshwater into an old rusty, filthy canteen without first cleaning it out… the same goes here. Get clean first, then enjoy the JOY! (And hint: keep that “canteen” clean at all times!)
Prayer: LORD, I admit that I have missed the mark. Thank You for 1 John 1:9 – “If we confess our sins He is faithful and just to forgive us our sins and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.” Lord, that’s what I need, and beyond that, I’m looking again to be filled with Your JOY. Amen.
