40 Days of JOY
Day  9 | JESUS WANTS US TO BE FULL OF JOY
JESUS WANTS US TO BE FULL OF JOY

John 15:11
“These things have I spoken unto you, that My joy might remain in you, and that your joy might be full.”

“I don’t deserve to be joyful.”

I’ve heard that – or similar – many times from many people over the years.  And the truth is, we don’t deserve to be joyful.

YET, Jesus spoke those words in John 15, and He never lies.  He – the Son of the Living God – wants us to experience HIS joy and to be FULL of joy!

So, what do you do when you know deep inside that you have missed the mark and don’t deserve this blessing of JOY?

Reading the two preceding verses can help our interpretation of what was said here.
Jesus said: “As the Father loved Me, I also have loved you; abide in My love.  If you keep My commandments, you will abide in My love, just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.”

So, when Jesus said, “These things I have spoken to you,” these are the things!

We must learn to ABIDE in His love.  And in order to do that, we must KEEP His commandments.  Face it… there is no promise of JOY to the disobedient. All of the preceding verses here in John 15 are talking about the vine (Jesus) and the branches (His children) and the need to cling to the vine so that we will produce fruit.

Jesus wants us to be full of JOY – but – it doesn’t happen automatically.  It requires obedience on our part – abiding in His love and keeping His commands.

Prayer: LORD, I do want to be FULL of Joy.  Help me pray to you and read the Word with more attention to WHAT You want me to do. Then, I was hoping you could help me to be a doer of the Word and not a hearer only.  Amen.
