40 Days of JOY
Day 6 | JOY IS A GIFT FROM GOD
40 Days of JOY
Day 6 | JOY IS A GIFT FROM GOD
JOY IS A GIFT FROM GOD
Romans 15:13
“Now may the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace in believing, so that you will abound in hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.” (NASB)
Are you a hopeful person? Are you looking forward to better days in some way? Are you talking regularly to the LORD and asking Him to direct your path?
If you are, then I’ll bet you’re also JOYFUL.
You see, there is a relationship between HOPE and JOY and PEACE and BELIEVING, and they’re all mentioned in this verse along with the main power source, the Holy Spirit.
Paul is praying this “benediction,” if you will, to the church in Rome. Back in that day, they probably had many reasons to not be filled with hope or joy or peace, just by virtue of them worshiping the One True God and the government’s reaction to them.
Today, our situation is much better than – at least from a government intrusion standpoint – but our need for what Paul was praying for here is just as great.
JOY today is seemingly in short supply. Every day the news blares out “nuggets” of information, disinformation, hyperbole, truth, falsehoods, and reasons for the listeners to be concerned, dismayed, and fearful.
This verse from Romans reminds us that joy is a GIFT from God to His Children! And Paul is praying that we are filled with joy and peace as we believe (the LORD) and receive His power by His Spirit.
But God is also a God who will not force us to receive His gifts and – I have found – there is almost always something I am to do to receive His blessings. Sometimes, I have to ask. Sometimes, I have to be still (and remember that HE is God). Sometimes I have to read (His Word). What does He need you to do?
Prayer: LORD, help me to DO what YOU want me to do to position myself to be able to receive from You – from the Holy Spirit – the hope, peace, and JOY that You offer me. Thank you! Amen.
