40 Days of JOY
Day 1 | WHERE TO LET YOUR MIND WANDER
WHERE TO LET YOUR MIND WANDER
Philippians 4:8
“Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Annually, polls are taken asking American’s if they are “very happy” or “fairly happy” or “not too happy.”
I wonder – how would YOU answer that question today?
Another question: Do you think God’s Word helps us in moving towards joy and happiness?
I believe the answer is YES. God’s Word has principles for living that speak to ANY circumstance in which we find ourselves, and as we’ll see in the weeks to come, God wants us to be both JOYFUL and HAPPY.
The issue is one of DOING what God’s Word says and not just reading it and assuming it will happen or dismissing it as “those are some good ideas.”
This verse from Philippians 4 is a KEY to living in today’s complex world with all the conflicting – and mostly negative – messages from the TV, radio, newsletters, papers, friends, neighbors, politicians, and so on.
Have you ever let your mind, “wander”? You know, just daydream?
Paul – speaking under the inspiration of the Holy Spirit – wrote Philippians 4:8. He is telling us where to let our minds “wander.” And – much like a physical fitness trainer would tell you WHICH weights to pick up, how many reps, and the proper form – Paul is telling us that here also.
Again, He says… “Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, noble, just, pure, lovely, of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things.”
Prayer: LORD, this verse is easy to read and challenging to do. I have so many bad habits in my thinking. Please HELP me to turn those around and to DO this verse. For You. For me. For others. Amen.
