Day 38 | HOPE, ASSURANCE AND WAITING
HOPE, ASSURANCE AND WAITING
1 John 5:11-13
“And this is the testimony: that God has given us eternal life, and this life is in His Son. He who has the Son has life; he who does not have the Son of God does not have life. These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may know that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.” (NKJV)
The Apostle John was an old man AND the last apostle still alive when he wrote this. He wanted to give HOPE and assurance to the Followers of Jesus as the last eyewitness of the words and life of Jesus the Christ, the Son of the living God.
John is reaffirming that life – eternal life – is in God’s Son, Jesus. Period.
Note John’s emphatic wording: “God (the Father) has given us eternal life and that life is in His Son.” (Period!)
The one who “has the Son has eternal life.” The one “who does not have the Son of God does not have life.”
And then, “These things I have written to you who believe in the name of the Son of God, that you may KNOW that you have eternal life, and that you may continue to believe in the name of the Son of God.”
John wants us to be assured, to have HOPE, and to wait.
Remember HOPE means: “confident expectation.”
Jesus has NOT come again yet, but it could be any day! Like a pregnant woman expecting a child, she waits until the right time and then … it’s time! She doesn’t STOP thinking about her baby, but is anxiously, confidently, expecting that day to come.
PRAYER: LORD, I am expecting and hopeful and yet, waiting. I’d love it if you came today, but only You know your timeline and the why. That’s fine with me… because if I were in charge, I’d mess it up. So, I’ll just wait expectantly. After all, You’re God, I’m not. Amen.
