Day 37 | THE WAY
THE WAY
John 14:1-6
“’Let not your heart be troubled; you believe in God, believe also in Me. In My Father house are many mansions; if it were not so, I would have told you. I go to prepare a place for you. And if I go and prepare a place for you, I will come again and receive you to Myself; that where I am, there you may be also. And where I go you know, and the way you know.’ Thomas said to Him, ‘Lord, we do not know where You are going, and how can we know the way?’ Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” (NKJV)
HOPE means “confident expectation.”
Here, Jesus is pointing to the future – our future – in heaven with Him and the Father and the Spirit and ALL we saints – we “children of God” – past, present and future, who will be there!
Jesus is telling His Followers what He’s doing to prepare a place for us. In one translation it comes out as “mansions,” in another “dwelling places,” in another “rooms” but it’s clear there is room for ALL those whose final destination after this life is heaven!
But then Thomas, good ol’ “doubting Thomas.” I’m actually glad he asked His question, because then, Jesus gave one of the most succinct and powerful statements in the entire Bible: “Jesus said to him, ‘I am the way, the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through Me.’” Jesus is THE WAY, the only way. There is NO plan B.
Prayer: LORD, I am thankful for these words of HOPE from You. I look forward expectantly! Amen.
