Day  34 | RESTING IN HOPE
RESTING IN HOPE

Acts 2:25-26
“David said about him:  ‘I saw the Lord always before me. Because he is at my right hand, I will not be shaken. Therefore my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope.’”

Acts 2 is a unique chapter in the Bible.  It tells us about the day that the CHURCH began.  There was no church before Acts 2, and the church age is continuing today and will continue until the LORD comes again.

So, what did Peter preach in this first recorded sermon?  Jesus Christ: His death, burial, and resurrection. And Peter was absolutely convinced because he had been an EYEWITNESS to Jesus' resurrection.  It wasn't Peter's "theology" that gave him confidence; he didn't have a Bible like we do today.  It was because of what Peter had SEEN; the risen Christ!

Peter also wisely quotes King David in this sermon – someone respected by all good Jews. David was also given assurance and comfort by the LORD about the future coming of the Messiah! This caused David to say: "Therefore, my heart is glad and my tongue rejoices; my body also will rest in hope."

HOPE. The same… then and now.

God's HOPE – "confident expectation" – was given to David and Peter and the 3,000 who came to Christ during that first sermon… and is also to us.

Today's WORLD is messier than I can ever remember, yet GOD is the same yesterday, today, and forever.  And HE gave us many things… including faith, hope, and love.

But the LORD also gave you – and me – the power to choose.

On one side are faith, hope, and love; on the other side, fear, doubt, and worry.  Make your choice but choose wisely.  It will affect your entire life – now and into eternity.

Prayer: LORD, I do want to live filled with YOUR faith, YOUR hope, and YOUR love.  Please help me every day to keep my focus on YOU.  Amen.
