40 Days of HOPE
Day 30 | HOPING ON THE LORD
40 Days of HOPE
Day 30 | HOPING ON THE LORD
HOPING ON THE LORD
Psalm 33:18-22
“But the eyes of the Lord are on those who fear him, on those whose hope is in his unfailing love, to deliver them from death and keep them alive in famine. We wait in hope for the Lord; he is our help and our shield. In him our hearts rejoice, for we trust in his holy name. May your unfailing love be with us, Lord, even as we put our hope in you.”
This entire Psalm is a beautiful hymn (song) of PRAISE to God!
In these verses, we are told that the LORD is watching – looking after – those of us who “fear” (reverence) Him… those of us whose HOPE is in the LORD God and in His unfailing love!
You know, believing in God’s “unfailing love” is a challenge for many… because they’ve never seen anything close to it here on earth. For some, it’s easier to imagine the LORD delivering them from death or keeping them alive in a famine than providing “unfailing love.”
Thus, for many Christians, it’s hard to “wait in hope for the LORD.” It’s hard to truly believe HE will be their help and shield.
But HOPE can grow… just as can our faith and our love. We can start by reading psalms like this and realizing that the psalmists had EXPERIENCED what they were writing about and what God had revealed to them.
Growing our faith, our hope, and our love should be a priority for every believer in Christ because none of us has yet developed PERFECT God-like faith nor hope nor love. We may be growing… but we’re not there yet.
So, I encourage you to read (or listen to) these verses again. And ponder what they mean for you as a believer in Jesus.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for counting me among those whom You love and being the One in whom I can trust. Help me LORD to trust, believe, and have hope in You and in all the words You have spoken. Amen
