HOPE AND THE LORD
Psalm 121
“I lift up my eyes to the mountains—where does my help come from? My help comes from the Lord, the Maker of heaven and earth. He will not let your foot slip—he who watches over you will not slumber; indeed, he who watches over Israel will neither slumber nor sleep. The Lord watches over you—the Lord is your shade at your right hand; the sun will not harm you by day, nor the moon by night. The Lord will keep you from all harm—he will watch over your life; the Lord will watch over your coming and going both now and forevermore.”
Wouldn’t you have loved to have heard the musical version this Psalm! Remember, all of the Psalms were originally songs that were sung way back then.
This Psalm – all eight verses – paints a hopeful picture of the LORD helping, watching, and protecting His children.
We’re reminded that the LORD:
* Made the heavens and the earth
* Will not let your foot slip (as you climb the mountains of life)
* Will be like a shade for you during the tough times
* Will keep you from all harm
* Will watch over you all your life – your comings and goings now and forever!
I find this Psalm an amazingly HOPEFUL Psalm.
Hope means: “confident expectation.” And here the LORD is promising to care for, protect, and provide for us… His children, His followers, those who have put their trust in HIM.
Our lives are complicated. There are so many opportunities for harm, for slipping, for troubles. But our God, our LORD, is our Protector and Guide, and the Source of all we need.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for all you offer us, your children. Please help me ALWAYS remember the lessons of this Psalm and to read it regularly for strength and hope! Amen.
