40 Days of HOPE
Day 27 | HOPES OF THE GODLY
HOPES OF THE GODLY
Proverbs 10:27-29
“Fear of the Lord lengthens one life, but the years of the wicked are cut short. The hopes of the godly result in happiness, but the expectations of the wicked come to nothing. The way of the Lord is a stronghold to those with integrity, but it destroys the wicked.”
Would you like long life, happiness, and the LORD offering to be your refuge when needed? Then direct your focus… point your life in the right direction!
What would happen if you started on a long cross-country driving trip to a place you hadn’t been to before but decided to get there without the use of a MAP or GPS or asking others? Perhaps you have a general idea of how to get there, “It’s northeast of here and about 1200 miles away,” …but nothing more. What’s the likelihood of getting there? Slim to none, right?
Most people would LIKE to have a LONG (and healthy) life. They would like to be HAPPY, and they would also love to KNOW that the LORD is there for shelter if and when needed during the storms of life.
The author of the Proverbs – Solomon – tells us the KEYS to all of those.
“Fear of the LORD” – reverencing Him, realizing He could snap us in two in a nano-second and thus being obedient to Him – will “lengthen our lives.”
Putting our HOPE in HIM will result in happiness. Putting our TRUST in the LORD will provide us with a stronghold, a fortress, a refuge in the times of storm.
Throughout the Scriptures, we are shown two paths – the RIGHTEOUS path and the path of the unrighteous. Here, the differentiation between those two options is straightforward.
Prayer: LORD, I do put my faith, my trust, my hope in YOU. I do fear You – but in a good way. You are my Heavenly Father, and I am happy to be one of your children. Amen.
