Day 19 | HOPE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT
HOPE AND THE HOLY SPIRIT
Romans 8:23-25
“Not only that, but we also who have the firstfruits of the Spirit, even we ourselves groan within ourselves, eagerly waiting for the adoption, the redemption of our body. For we were saved in this hope, but hope that is seen is not hope; for why does one still hope for what he sees? But if we hope for what we do not see, we eagerly wait for it with perseverance.”
Sometimes we forget ALL that we were given when we “stepped over the line” and received Jesus Christ as our Lord and Savior. ONE of the essential things we receive is that the Holy Spirit comes to into our lives when we become “born again.”
Other things He does include:
* Convicting us when we miss the mark (sin)
* Being our source of revelation, wisdom, and power,
* Guiding us into all truth (including what is to come)
* Giving us spiritual gifts
* Placing a SEAL of ownership on us;
* Helping us in our weaknesses and intercedes for us;
* Making us NEW and gives us eternal life;
* Enabling us to bear good fruit.
What a great LIST of things the Holy Spirit does for and in us, God’s children!
But we don’t always SEE all of these… though they are, or will be taking place. Thus, the HOPE we exercise.
I’m reminded of Hebrews 11:1 – “Now faith is, the substance of things HOPED for and the evidence of things NOT (yet) seen.”
Remember: Hope means “confident expectation.”
Doubting Thomas – after the resurrection – wanted to SEE and TOUCH the holes in Jesus’ hand and side “before I’ll believe.” He did… and he believed. “Then Jesus told him, ‘Because you have seen me, you have believed; blessed are those who have not seen and yet have believed.’” (John 20:29)
Prayer: LORD, I believe YOU are active in my life through the Holy Spirit Who is living inside of me. I can’t see You nor the Holy Spirit, but I believe, and I am eagerly hopeful and waiting for Your future return! Amen.
