Day 17 | DRAWING NEAR AND HOLDING ON
DRAWING NEAR AND HOLDING ON
Hebrews 10:22-23
“Let us draw near with a true heart in full assurance of faith, having our hearts sprinkled from an evil conscience, and our bodies washed with pure water. Let’s hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering, because the one who made the promises is reliable.”
This book, written originally to the Hebrew Christians of the first century, is as relevant today as it was then. At that time, they were being told to “draw near,” something the Old Testament saints were never told to do… to draw near to the LORD, to Yahweh, to the great I Am. And this was necessary because non-believers were tormenting them, they had lost their intimate relationship with Jesus Christ, and things were going wrong.
Today, we are going through tough times as well. Many Christians before us have gone through worse and yet had more joy and a better attitude than I’m seeing in many believers today. What was the difference? They knew how to “DRAW NEAR.”
We Christians have a GREAT HOPE in Christ. We just celebrated Jesus rising from the grave and being seen by tons of people. And later, after he ascended to heaven, He left us the Holy Spirit to guide, comfort, and protect us.
Today – as then – we need to “…hold on to the confession of our hope without wavering because the one who made the promises is reliable.” Don’t give up. Don’t assume that since things are not perfect in the here and now, God doesn’t know or care. He does… and the clock is counting down to the time when Jesus will come again.
Let that be on the tip of your tongue, not the latest negative newscast.
Prayer: LORD, once again, I’m asking that You help me focus on YOU and not on the news or the negative things said by people around me. Help me to DRAW NEAR to You and SAY only what will help me and others around me. Amen.
