40 Days of HOPE
Day 16 | YOUR INHERITANCE
40 Days of HOPE
Day 16 | YOUR INHERITANCE
YOUR INHERITANCE
1 Peter 1:3-4
“Praise be to the God and Father of our Lord Jesus Christ! In his great mercy he has given us new birth into a living hope through the resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead, and into an inheritance that can never perish, spoil or fade.” (NIV)
What do you know about inheritances? Probably what most do… that someone, usually a relative, is leaving something for you in his/her will when they die. Something of value. Something meaningful to them and (hopefully) to you. You may know the person well, or not so well, but once you’re IN the will, you’re in line to receive something.
Peter – the ONE who correctly answered when Jesus asked the disciples: “And who do you say that I am?” He answered: “You are the Christ, the Son of the Living God” – This SAME Peter, the bold preacher on the day of Pentecost (Acts 2), is telling us that we – the Jesus followers – have an INHERITANCE coming that will never perish or spoil or fade. It is, in fact, a LIVING HOPE because of the “resurrection of Jesus Christ from the dead”!
Hope means: “Confidently Expecting” – and that’s how we should view our INHERITANCE in Christ which will be awarded us… not when HE dies (He already did that), but when He comes again for “his bride” – the church! (Consisting of all we children of God.)
Are you one? A child of God?
John tells us, “But as many as received Him, to them He gave the right to become children of God, to those who believe in His name.” (John 1:12)
Prayer: LORD, thank You for the HOPE that You have provided me. Thank You for the inheritance you have provided me. Thank You for the everlasting future which you provided for me. You are amazing, and I am so grateful. Amen.
