Day 14 | FIXING YOUR HOPE
FIXING YOUR HOPE
1 Peter 1:13
“So prepare your minds for action, be completely sober [in spirit—steadfast, self-disciplined, spiritually and morally alert], fix your hope completely on the grace [of God] that is coming to you when Jesus Christ is revealed.” (AMP)
Peter – the fisherman, the one who tried to walk on water, the one who denied Jesus three times, but received forgiveness and a mission from Him (“feed my sheep”) – is writing here to those followers of Jesus… and us too. He is reminding all of us that our HOPE – “confident expectation” – is to be on the LORD and His coming again!
For the Believer, God is real! For the Believer, heaven awaits! For the Believer, the Holy Spirit is inside of us… guiding, comforting, and reminding us of all the LORD said when He was here walking amongst us.
Peter reminds us – we who believe, who follow, who are engaged – to be completely sober… steadfast, self-disciplined, and spiritually and morally alert. Later in this same book, Peter reminds the Jesus followers that our enemy – the devil – is out to “devour us” if we drop our guard. “Be alert and of sober mind. Your enemy the devil prowls around like a roaring lion looking for someone to devour.” (1 Peter 5:8)
Now let me add that does not mean we can’t have any fun. We can, and we should. But, we need to be sensitive and on alert. Fortunately, the Holy Spirit will guide us if we tune into His leading.
Prayer: LORD, help me to always listen for the Spirit’s voice and pay attention to His leading. And, I have my HOPE fixed on You and am so looking forward to eternity in heaven with YOU. Amen.
