40 Days of HOPE
Day 12 | BECOMING LIKE JESUS
BECOMING LIKE JESUS
1 John 3:2-3
“Beloved, we are God’s children right now; however, it is not yet apparent what we will become. But we do know that when it is finally made visible, we will be just like him, for we will see him as he truly is. And all who focus their hope on him will always be purifying themselves, just as Jesus is pure.”
Character actors have a challenging job – to act like someone else as they depict his/her life in a movie. To do that, they study videos, recordings and photos and sometimes interviews with people who knew them. (Or if they are lucky and the person is still alive, the person himself.) They are trying to “get inside” of his/her head to know how they think so they can more accurately portray them on the screen.
Tom Hanks had to do exactly that as he prepared to shoot the movie “A Beautiful Day in the Neighborhood,” which depicted the real life of Fred Rogers, creator and center piece of the “Mr. Rogers” children’s TV show. Tom studied old videos, met with people who knew Fred Rogers and even met multiple times with the real Mr. Rogers. All of which contributed to him doing a superb job in making the movie.
I was thinking… Do we focus that intensely on Jesus?
These verses today remind us of several things:
1. We are God’s children right now.
2. But we don’t look NOW as we eventually will be.
3. Ultimately though, we shall be like Jesus!
4. We can and should start the process NOW, by focusing on HIM, putting our HOPE in Him.
5. This is a sure-fire method to become more and more like Jesus in the here and now.
Prayer: Lord, I am anxious to be more like Jesus now. Help me to keep my focus more and more on Him and less and less on the news and things of this life. Amen.
