Day 8 | FILLING UP
FILLING UP
Isaiah 40:31
“But they that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength; they shall mount up with wings as eagles; they shall run, and not be weary; and they shall walk, and not faint.” (KJV)
Are you feeling the least bit weary?
The dictionary defines “weary” as: “exhausted in strength, endurance, vigor, or freshness.”
The word “weary” is found 96 times in the KJV Bible which tells me it’s a COMMON way to feel.
The NIV version says, “But those who hope in the Lord will renew their strength.” So KJV and NIV equate HOPE and WAIT. HOPE means “confident expectation” and often we have to WAIT for it to manifest.
I was pondering this briefly and I conjured up a mental picture of taking my car to the gas station for a fill-up. I read the gas gauge and know that I’m low but that doesn’t bother me because I know where I can find what I need… in this case, gasoline. Once I’m there, I pull up to the pump, put in my credit card, hook up the hose, lock open the pump handle and then usually get back in my car and WAIT.
I am confident that the pump is doing its job, the hose is doing its part and the fuel is flowing. Finally, SNAP... The gas stops flowing, my tank is full, I disconnect and drive away.
That’s a picture of what the LORD offers us. We can get tired from all that we do. The LORD – our “filling station” – is ever-ready to provide JUST what we need. All we need to do is pull in, hook up and then WAIT. He’ll provide just what we need – renewed strength, defeat of weariness, a full tank, and an eagle’s view!
Prayer: LORD, help me to remember this picture every day and to pull in whenever my tank is getting low. I’m trusting YOU for the renewed strength I need. Amen.
