GOD PROVIDES A WAY

Lamentations 3:40
“Let us examine our ways and test them, and let us return to the LORD.”
(NIV)

The original name of this book was "ekah" (in Hebrew) which meant "Alas" or "How?" regarding a sad event. Later, the book's name was changed to Lamentations. The author is assumed to be Jeremiah, "the weeping prophet." (Prophets were often weeping for their people who repeatedly did NOT listen to God's warnings through them.)

Jeremiah was saddened in this book, having witnessed the destruction of the Temple in the Holy City of Jerusalem and the Babylonian invasion as well.

Here, as in the book of Job and other places, we see mankind pondering the perplexing problem of pain. Why is there suffering in the world? Why does God – the All-Powerful – allow hurt and destruction? In Lamentations, Jeremiah describes the destruction of the Temple in various ways but constantly circles back to the effects of SIN in the world.

Yet even in this overly sorrowful, lamenting book, Jeremiah speaks encouraging truth about the LORD: “Because of the Lord's great love, we are not consumed, for his compassions never fail. They are new every morning; great is your faithfulness. I say to myself, "The Lord is my portion; therefore I will wait for him. The Lord is good to those whose hope is in him, to the one who seeks him;  it is good to wait quietly for the salvation of the Lord.” (Lamentations 3:22-25, NIV)

Don't miss this!  EVEN in our darkest times, God's faithfulness is GREAT!

If you're there now, re-read these verses repeatedly and let them sink deep inside your mind and spirit, and remind yourself that His compassions and mercies never end. The LORD is GOOD to those who wait for Him, seek Him, and place their HOPE in Him.

Prayer: LORD, the world is in such a mess that I need You daily. Thank You that You are my portion, and Your faithfulness is GREAT! Amen.
