Day 3 | THE LORD TALKS TO MOSES
THE LORD TALKS TO MOSES
Exodus 6:6-8
“Therefore, say to the Israelites: ‘I am the LORD, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I will redeem you with an outstretched arm and with mighty acts of judgment. I will take you as my own people, and I will be your God. Then you will know that I am the LORD your God, who brought you out from under the yoke of the Egyptians. And I will bring you to the land I swore with uplifted hand to give to Abraham, to Isaac and to Jacob. I will give it to you as a possession. I am the LORD.’” (NIV)
Here, God is talking to Moses and uses His covenant name four times, “LORD” (all caps - which means Yahweh), and gives promises to Moses (“I will”) seven times.
What does it take for YOU to believe and trust the LORD? How would you feel if you were Moses during this conversation with the LORD God?
Notice, too, that God is prophesying “mighty acts of judgment.” Moses had NO IDEA of what that meant… nor would the Pharaoh had he been invited to this chat.
But WE know what happened. The ten plagues (judgments) God caused to Egypt finally motivated the Pharaoh to comply with Moses’ demand to “Let My people go!”
Here are some takeaways for me as I read Exodus.
God keeps His Word. If He has promised, He will do it. His promise to Abraham was long ago, but God is faithful to His Word and His promises. (A good thing for us to remember!)
God knows the future. He already knew what He would do to Egypt and the Pharaoh. God also knows YOUR FUTURE.
What was Moses’ part in this conversation? To listen and do whatever the LORD asked of Him! God then – and now – does the “heavy lifting.” Yet, He always leaves something for us to do too!
Prayer: LORD, thank YOU for knowing everything and being true to Your Word and promises. Amen.
