40 Days of TRUST
Day 32 | TRUST HIM AT ALL TIMES
TRUST HIM AT ALL TIMES
Jeremiah 17:7-8
“But blessed is the one who trusts in the LORD, whose confidence is in him. They will be like a tree planted by the water that sends out its roots by the stream. It does not fear when heat comes; its leaves are always green. It has no worries in a year of drought and never fails to bear fruit.”
This Scripture is picturesque. One can almost see that tree planted by the water.
It reminds me immediately of Psalm 1, where in verse 3, the faithful of God are compared to a fruitful tree also planted by the water.
“He shall be like a tree planted by the rivers of water, that brings forth its fruit in its season, whose leaf also shall not wither; and whatever he does shall prosper.” (Psalm 1:3)
So why all this emphasis on water?
Consider the Mideast where both David and Jeremiah lived in their times. Experiencing “dry” was the norm. Having water was essential for life… for people, animals, and plants.
It meant something to the readers in their days to say, as Jeremiah does here, that the one who TRUSTS in the LORD and has confidence in HIM will be like a tree planted by water who needs not fear the heat or drought but will always have green leaves and bear fruit. That’s quite a bold promise, but one Jeremiah had seen in his own life, as David also did in Psalm 1. Countless Christians have also seen God’s provision and faithfulness in the years since.
God is the same today as He was back then. The question is: WHERE is your trust? Your confidence? Your faith?
Prayer: Lord, I do believe YOU are the same today as way back then. Help me become more trusting, more confident, and rely more on YOU—day by day, week by week, year by year. I want to not worry but to rest faithfully, confidently in YOU. Amen.
