Day 17 | TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD
TRUST GOD AND DO GOOD
(Part 2)
Psalm 37:3
“Keep trusting in the Lord and do what is right in his eyes. Fix your heart on the promises of God, and you will be secure, feasting on his faithfulness.” (TPT)
We live in a time of great uncertainty. Every day on the news, in conversations, or just in our thinking, reasons pop-up to feel afraid and insecure.
One useful definition of worry is: “Worry is the negative use of God’s gift of imagination.”
You see, only humanity can worry. Only WE can play the “what-if” game in our minds. And unfortunately, many play the negative version VERY well!
David, who wrote this Psalm, knew the secret of TRUSTING God and casting His care on the LORD. It was in DOING something GOOD for someone else.
To “trust” and “cast” but then sit around without doing good is the perfect scenario for starting to experience fear, doubt, and worry.
And the reason is that our Enemy is very intelligent. He’s been deceiving people – ALL people – ever since Genesis 3… and he’s very adept at it.
This version of Psalm 37:3 teaches us to “Trust and KEEP trusting in the Lord AND then do right in HIS eyes.” Then it instructs us to “FIX your heart (you mind, your will) on God’s promises.” And the result is: “YOU will be SECURE and will enjoy HIS faithfulness.”
I like the elaboration of this verse because there is much for us TO DO besides JUST “trusting in the LORD.”
Throughout Scripture, we’re taught that things need to be done. Not just to be saved… but to get to the place where we can ENJOY being one of HIS children – to the FULLEST.
Prayer: Lord, help me to KEEP trusting You, to fix my heart on Your promises, and to do what is RIGHT in Your eyes. Help me keep from taking my cares back, thinking I can do a better job than You. You are GOD, and I am not. Please help me to ALWAYS remember that? Amen.
