40 Days of TRUST
Day 15 | GROWING OUR FAITH
GROWING OUR FAITH
Psalm 56:3-4
“When I am afraid, I put my trust in you. In God, whose word I praise, in God I trust; I shall not be afraid. What can flesh do to me?”
This was written by David as he acknowledged his fear DESPITE having previously killed a lion, a bear, and the giant Goliath.
So even the mighty David acknowledged times of being afraid.
I find that encouraging because no one I know has PERFECT trust and zero fear… ever.
And it sometimes depends on how difficult the situation. As Charles Spurgeon said, “To trust God in the light is nothing, but trust him in the dark—that is faith.”
So, then I think, how do we GROW our faith? How can we move from little faith to great faith?
We don’t want to have small faith. Jesus chastised his followers on multiple occasions for their littleness of faith, and His followers walked with Him every day for 3-4 years. (So, that should give you some HOPE!)
The Psalmist here was sharing divine wisdom that we need to apply: “When I am afraid, I put my trust in you.” David went on to say that he would also praise God’s Word, which obviously would build his trust in God.
Do you praise God? Not just on Sundays, but seven days a week?
HOW do you praise Him? What do you say? Do you sing? Do you raise your hands? Do you praise Him for answers to past prayers? What have you done TODAY to praise God?
You see, ALL of those things above can BUILD your faith, build your trust, and help you to overcome.
But just like exercise, it’s something we have to do regularly, day by day. (In fact, I encourage you to PRAISE GOD right now… before the prayer.)
Prayer: Lord, YOU have done much for me. Forgive me for forgetting so many things You have done, but I do want to praise You for WHO you are and all you have done for me. Help me to GROW my trust in You so that I can avoid being afraid. Amen.
