Day 10
TRUSTING BY FAITH
Psalm 112:1, 6-8
“How JOYFUL are those who fear the LORD and delight in OBEYING his commands ... Such people will not be overcome by evil. Those who are righteous will be long remembered. They do not fear bad news; they confidently TRUST the LORD to care for them. They are confident and fearless.” (TPT)
Every era has some strangeness to it, but the LORD God has given us guidance for successful living that is timeless.
Fear is something that no one I know likes experiencing. Thus, taking these verses from the bottom up and reading “they are confident and fearless” (v8) sounds pretty good!
So how do we get there?
Verse 7 says: “They don’t fear bad news and confidently TRUST in the Lord to care for them.”
Verse 6 says: “Their circumstances will never shake them and others will never forget their example.” (TPT)
And finally verse 1 says: “Praise the Lord! (Hallelujah!) Blessed (happy, fortunate, to be envied) is the man who fears (reveres and worships) the Lord, who delights greatly in His commandments.” (AMP)
So why do Christians, push back on “fearing the Lord” and “obeying His commands”?
Psalm 111 ends with “The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom.” Then here in Psalm 112 it continues that theme with “Blessed is the man who fears the Lord.”
The “fear of the Lord” for unbelievers is fear of judgement of God and eternal death. But for Believers it is different… it’s REVERENCE and AWE of God. Hebrews 12:28-29 says “Let us offer to God acceptable worship, with reverence and awe, for our God is a consuming fire.”
That reverence and awe and those promises, should cause us TRUST HIM and want to be obedient to His plans.
Prayer: Lord, I do want to TRUST You implicitly. Help me to spend time in Your Word, learning Your ways and Your will and then help me to be a DOER of those words, and not just a hearer. Amen.
