Day  5 | GOD WITH US
GOD WITH US

Isaiah 7:14
“Therefore the Lord Himself will give you a sign: Behold, the virgin shall conceive and bear a Son, and shall call His name Immanuel.”

Each Christmas, many have the same questions.  God with us?  Really?  It doesn’t seem like it when I look around.

This prophecy by Isaiah – approximately 1800 years AFTER Abram was promised by God many decedents… and some 700 years before Jesus’ birth –  must have caused many questions to be asked by the leaders and people in the southern kingdom of Judah.  This statement was BIG, and seemingly impossible.  A virgin?  And God with us?  Really?

Sometimes, even for Believers, it can be challenging to believe that God is at work in the world today.  We SEE so much evil, pain, suffering and hurt… that we could ask: “Where’s God?”

The people in Isaiah’s day must have wondered the same and none – not even Isaiah – lived long enough to see the precise fulfillment of this prophecy.  (But it did happen!)

But our time schedule is not God’s.  And our viewpoint is not God’s.  Compared to God, we’re like a bunch of 2-year-olds.   He knows more, sees more and cares more than we do.  He loved the whole world SO MUCH, that He sent His one and only Son to be born as a person, live a sinless life, get wrongly accused, tried and crucified – all according to God’s plan.  (Then three days later … WOW!)

The takeaway is this: We must learn to TRUST our Heavenly Father in
ALL things. This includes His plans, His methods, and His timing.

About God, Isaiah also wrote: “For my thoughts are not your thoughts, neither are your ways my ways. . . . As the heavens are higher than the earth, so are my ways higher than your ways and my thoughts than your thoughts.”  (Isaiah 55:8-9)

He’s God and we’re not.  Trust Him!

Prayer: LORD, I want to trust You and I admit I don’t always understand. But, You are God and I’m not, so I rest in You.  Help me to build my trust and squash my doubts.  Amen.
