Day 4 | NEVER TURN YOUR GAZE FROM GOD
NEVER TURN YOUR GAZE FROM GOD
Isaiah 41:10
“Fear not, for I am with you; Be not dismayed, for I am your God. I will strengthen you, Yes, I will help you, I will uphold you with My righteous right hand.”
The LORD is reminding us – through the prophet Isaiah – that HE is our God. HE will strengthen us, help us, and hold us up with His righteous right hand!
Another contemporary translation says it this way: “Do not yield to fear, for I am always near. Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God. I will infuse you with my strength and help you in every situation. I will hold you firmly with my victorious right hand.”
I like that phrase: “Never turn your gaze from me, for I am your faithful God.”
If I were the enemy of God, that is what I’d do with the Christians: get them so busy, so intrigued with their phones, tablets, computers, and televisions – that they would TURN THEIR GAZE from their faithful, all-powerful God.
I think of the time when Peter saw Jesus walking on the water and wanted to do likewise and said so to Jesus. Jesus said “come” and so he got out of the boat, took a step but then looked down at the water and started to sink. Jesus pulled him up and then said, “Why did you doubt?” Jesus knew the answer – but was waiting for it to occur to Peter.
If Peter had kept his focus on Jesus, he would have continued to walk. But once his gaze went to the water – he sunk.
We do that sometimes too but need to remind ourselves of ALL this verse promises.
Prayer: Lord, I don’t want to be fearful. Help my unbelief and help me to spend more time gazing at YOU than I do gazing at the world. “This world is not my home I’m just a passin’ through.” Amen.
