Day  3 | WHERE TO FIND PEACE
TRUSTING GOD AND LOVING ONE ANOTHER

John 13:34-35
“A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another; as I have loved you, that you also love one another. By this all will know that you are My disciples, if you have love for one another.”
(NKJV)

Here in John 13, Jesus was at what we call the “Last Supper” and was with His followers just before He went to the cross.

Up to this point in His earthly ministry, He taught and said many things. But now, He explicitly gives a NEW commandment.  When something NEW is given, it tends to supersede previous commandments of the same genre.

For instance, in driving a car down a highway where the speed limit was 50, if there is a NEW speed limit – perhaps via a flashing sign – that says 35, you had better pay attention and slow down!

Jesus’ NEW commandment was for his followers to “Love one another AS I have loved you.”  And he continues by saying that “ALL will know that you are My disciples” (or my “followers”) if you have (and demonstrate) love for one another.

We live in a time where there is a division in our country, our world, and – unfortunately – in our churches.

A well-known pastor recently asked the question in a pastor’s forum: “Can Christians disagree politically and yet still love one another unconditionally?”  An important question and one which Jesus answers in this verse.

The Amplified Bible says it this way: “I am giving you a new commandment, that you love one another. Just as I have loved you, so you too are to love one another.  By this everyone will know that you are My disciples, if you have love and unselfish concern for one another.”

Prayer, LORD, help me to DO these verses and not just read them.  Help me, help US, as Followers of you to love one another as You loved us. Amen.
