Day 1 | DO YOU TRULY TRUST GOD?
DO YOU TRULY TRUST GOD?
Proverbs 3:5-6
“TRUST in the Lord with all your heart and lean not on your own understanding. In all your ways acknowledge Him and He shall direct your paths.”
Did you ever play the “trust game” with a group of friends, classmates or business associates? A volunteer agrees to demonstrate his/her “trust” in his friends by allowing himself to be blindfolded and led on a walk over uneven ground, or perhaps through some brush. Since he’s “blind,” he needs to totally trust his guides. He must assume his guides can SEE well, and care enough about him to not trick him or hurt him.
Learning to TRUST others is hard for many. Even if they are pretty sure that people won’t trick or hurt them, they are often so self-reliant that TRUSTING others for anything is nearly impossible. An inkling of doubt causes them to turn away from trusting.
Learning to TRUST God is also hard for many people… even many who have accepted Christ. Why? Same reason – self-reliance and an inkling of doubt. Even though intellectually they KNOW that God is smarter than they are, kinder than they are, wiser than they are… many still say: “I’d rather do it myself, thank you” rather than listen to God, His plan, His wisdom, His guidance. Reason? Doubt.
Proverbs 3:5-6 are two of the most popular verses in the entire Bible. Yet, just reading them, doesn’t make you a person who truly TRUSTS the Lord.
Faith is the opposite of doubt. For years, I’ve been teaching that God wants you to be filled with faith, hope and love… whereas Satan (the Enemy) wants you to be filled with fear, doubt and worry.
Here’s a tip: What you FEED… grows. Whether you feed your FAITH or feed your DOUBT, it will grow. Scripture says “FAITH comes by hearing, and hearing by the Word of God.” Suggestion: Turn OFF the news (which increases fear, doubt, and worry). Then go to church and read more of God’s Word (which builds our faith, hope, and love).
Prayer: Lord, help me to make building my FAITH a priority and help me to learn how to truly TRUST You more. Amen.
