Day 33 | THE GOD OF HOPE
THE GOD OF HOPE

Romans 15:13
“May the God of hope fill you with all joy and peace as you trust in him, so that you may overflow with hope by the power of the Holy Spirit.”

This benediction by Paul to the Christians in Rome is a prayer of blessing. Paul is asking God to fill these Christians with ALL joy and peace … but trusting in HIM is required.

Further, he’s asking that these Roman Christians might OVERFLOW with HOPE.

So, what is hope?

In 1 Corinthians 13:13, we read, “Now abide faith, hope and love, these three….”

Biblical HOPE begins with our faith in God.

Hebrews 11:1 says, “Now faith is the substance of things hoped for…”

Biblical hope is not optimism and it’s not wishing.

Biblical hope is based on the Word of God as its sure foundation.

Thus, Biblical hope is based on the promises of God, not wishful “feelings.”

Peter tells us to “Always be prepared to give an answer to everyone who asks you to give the reason for the hope that you have.” (1 Peter 3:15)

Paul teaches us here, too, that Biblical hope will FILL us with all JOY and PEACE as we trust in Him.

Who today doesn’t want more JOY and PEACE? And the way to get those is to have HOPE. It’s OK to pray for OVERFLOWING hope, as Paul is doing here for his church people in Rome.

It’s been said that mankind can only live a few weeks without any food, a few days without any water, a few minutes without any air, but only a few moments with any hope.

Are you going through something right now that could use more HOPE? Pray and ask God for more… and then TRUST Him.

Prayer: LORD, I desire more hope, overflowing Hope by the Holy Spirit. I’m trusting and waiting on you. And in the meantime, I’ll spend more time in prayer and the Word. Amen.
