Day 29 | WE WILL NOT FEAR
WE WILL NOT FEAR

Psalm 46:1-3
“God is our refuge and strength, a very present help in trouble. Therefore we will not fear, even though the earth be removed, and though the mountains be carried into the midst of the sea; Though its waters roar and be troubled, though the mountains shake with its swelling. Selah”

We all have a common enemy. No, it’s not the government or other religions; it’s FEAR. The enemy of our faith wants us to be AFRAID. To him, it doesn’t matter WHAT we’re afraid of, just that we are feeling and exhibiting FEAR.

Every day on the news, we are bombarded with things about which we “should” be concerned or, worse, FULL of FEAR.

Where does fear come from anyway? Is there a simple way to flip the switch and turn it off?
Well, we are Imago Dei – made in the image of God – and have SOME of His (our Father’s) abilities. One is the ability to imagine or dream things up, such as a new skyscraper, a bridge, or a thumb drive. People imagined those things, then created or built them.

God created the world by imagining it and then speaking the words. (See Genesis 1). And Gen 1:26 tells us that we people are made in the image of God. Thus, we have imagination as well.

BUT – and here’s the problem – we can use that imagination POSITIVELY (as God did and does) or NEGATIVELY (as Satan does).

Decades ago, I recalled a Bible teacher who taught, “FEAR is: the negative use of God’s gift of imagination.”  And fear grows by playing the negative “what-if” scenarios in our minds.

Ultimately, our God is our refuge and strength and is always ready to help in times of trouble. Therefore – we need not fear … no matter what!

These verses end with the lovely “Selah.”  Which means to pause, rest, and reflect on what you’ve just read. Always a wise thing to do with the Word of God!

Prayer: LORD, thank You for being my Lord, my God, and my refuge and strength all the time, no matter what. Amen.
