THE FRUIT OF THE SPIRIT
Galatians 5:22-23
“But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law.”
When we come to Christ and receive Him as Lord and Savior, the Holy Spirit comes into our lives and changes us into children of God. Then, slowly, we start to change into ALL that the Lord wants us to be as His children. As we let Him take the “steering wheel of our lives,” as we submit to Him, we start to grow more and more into the image of Christ, which is befitting the name “Christian.”
One of the sure signs that the Holy Spirit is working in our lives is when we – and especially others – can see FRUIT in our lives. Not the edible kind, obviously, but the nine fruit of the Spirit as listed here in Galatians 5.
LOVE, agape, not phileo (friendship) or eros (romantic) or storge (family), but agape, the God kind of sacrificial love that Paul writes about in 1 Corinthians 13.
JOY – Jesus wants us to be joy-filled.
PEACE – Shalom in the Old Testament, the peace of mind, body, and spirit.
PATIENCE – the ability to withstand.
KINDNESS – being nice to others.
GOODNESS – showing benevolence to others.
FAITHFULNESS – being reliable and trustworthy to your word and promises.
GENTLENESS – meekness, and humility by; being gentle in your dealing with others
SELF-CONTROL – being contented and showing self-restraint.
These NINE Fruit of the Spirit are possible with EVERY born-again believer BECAUSE they are from the Holy Spirit who lives inside of every believer. However, we can quench the Holy Spirit and keep Him from being active by sinning and taking back up the old ways that are unpleasing to the Lord.
Choose to say YES to the Holy Spirit, and besides having Him inside of you so that you can be born again, let Him lead and fill you and show all nine of the fruit of the Spirit as you live your life.
Prayer: LORD, thank You for the Holy Spirit. Lead me, guide me, fill me with the Spirit. Amen.
