GOD IS HIGHER
Isaiah 55:8-9
“For My thoughts are not your thoughts, Nor are your ways My ways,” says the Lord. “For as the heavens are higher than the earth, So are My ways higher than your ways, and My thoughts than your thoughts.” (NKJV)
We people have a problem: to some degree, we all like to control whatever we can. We want to control our TV, the streaming movies, our kids (at least while they’re little), our pets, other people, our work associates, and on and on. And each time we do, we are really saying: “I know best.” And sometimes, maybe you do, but other times… you don’t.
But then, God.
Many people continuously want to control God. We tell Him what to do and when to do it and call it “prayer.” And then we get mad at God if XYZ doesn’t happen just as we prayed for it. (I can’t guess ALL the people in our country who no longer attend church because “God didn’t do as He was “asked” or, more accurately, told to do.)
But here, the Prophet Isaiah clarifies that our thinking – as good as it may be – is nothing compared to God’s. I mean, He’s God, and we’re NOT. He knows everything, everywhere. Do you? I certainly don’t. I mean, He knows what size every rock in every galaxy is, do you? He knows what will happen one year from today, do you? Of course not.
Thus, to assume that our thoughts are the same as God’s is ludicrous. And, as far as the earth is from heaven, so are God’s thoughts from ours.
What is the best plan of action for us? Trust the Lord with ALL your heart and lean not to your own puny understanding.
Prayer: LORD, I acknowledge that YOU are the Great I am. Eternal, all-knowing, the Alpha and Omega. Compared to You, I am nothing; but I am glad to be one of your Children, trusting in You. Amen.
