WHAT TO DO WHEN YOU’RE TIRED
Isaiah 40:31
“They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their strength. They shall mount us with wings as eagles, they shall run and not be weary, and they shall walk and not faint.”
Everyone gets tired. Unlike in heaven, here, we need sleep EVERY day. Yes, sometimes we go for a day or two or more with little or no sleep, but it affects our health negatively. Our human bodies were designed to need sleep; that is how they are renewed each day.
But what happens in those times when sleep is not enough? What happens when we are physically, emotionally, or spiritually exhausted? What do we do then?
God spoke to the people of God back then and to us today with a simple formula.
“WAIT UPON THE LORD.”
But this “waiting” is not passively sitting around waiting for God to do something. Instead, God provides us strength as we SEEK HIM and RELY ON HIM instead of ourselves.
And we SEEK Him by spending time with Him – thus waiting upon the Lord – reading His Word, and spending time talking to Him (aka Prayer). I find quoting my favorite memorized Scriptures is an important key that helps me renew my strength; you might try memorizing and quoting yours!
Then the promise – “they (that means we who have been waiting upon the Lord as I’ve described) – shall mount up with wings as eagles.” Consider how HIGH and effortlessly eagles soar the sky. Then, Isaiah continues: “they shall RUN and not be weary and then WALK and not faint.”
Whatever is going on in your life, there will be times when you need MORE strength. This formula, written by the ancient prophet and inspired by God, is for YOU… and everyone who follows the Lord. Claim it as your own and take steps to do what it teaches as often as necessary.
PRAYER: Thank You Lord, for providing a way for me to be renewed and strengthened. Amen.
