BE STRONG AND OF GOOD COURAGE
Joshua 1:8-9
“This Book of the Law shall not depart from your mouth, but you shall meditate in it day and night, that you may observe to do according to all that is written in it. For then you will make your way prosperous, and then you will have good success. Have I not commanded you? Be strong and of good courage; do not be afraid, nor be dismayed, for the Lord your God is with you wherever you go.” (NKJV)
How would you feel if you had just taken over for Moses? I mean, Moses! Well, Joshua is doing just that, and he feels he is not equal to the task. So, God speaks and tells him what we’ve read today.
None of us are taking over from Moses, but we’re living in a time of increasing darkness, perversion, and sin everywhere. And this is not usual for any of us who have grown up in America; thus, we have many reasons to be “afraid” and “dismayed,” just as Joshua was back then.
So then, what can we take away from these Scriptures? What is the FIX for how we sometimes feel?
First, God tells Joshua (and us) to MEDITATE on the “Book of the Law” – that is, the Word of God, the Bible. (These daily devotionals are written to help you do that.) Then, be a DOER of the Word. Don’t just read Scripture to be a scholar… read and meditate on Scripture to be a better Follower of Jesus.
Then God adds some BENEFITS for us that will come from reading and doing His Word. He will make us prosperous and we’ll have good success!
Finally, God adds, “Be strong and of good courage, do not be afraid or dismayed” – and WHY? Because “the LORD YOUR GOD IS WITH YOU WHEREVER YOU GO.” Let that sink in. God is the same yesterday, today, and forever. What He was for Joshua; He will be for you too!
Prayer: LORD, forgive me for not looking to YOU and YOUR WORD every day for inspiration, instruction, and comfort. I know You are there with me, thank You. Amen.
