CAN DO
Philippians 4:13
“I can do all things through Christ who strengthens me.” (NKJV)
Have you ever felt weak, worn-out, tired, or in some other way just DOWN about doing one more thing… even if the “one more thing” was something GOOD?
I suppose we have ALL felt that way at one time or another. These bodies can and do get tired and, later, “worn out.” Yet, I maintain that if you’re still breathing, then GOD has something significant for you to do!
So, what do you do when the energy feels low and yet you know you have things that need doing – even good things for the Lord – but you don’t FEEL like doing them?
And there’s the KEY word: FEEL. Too often, we let our FEELINGS dictate our actions. Perhaps it’s exercising, praying, talking to a loved one about something important, or encouraging a friend in the hospital… it could be any number of things we don’t FEEL like doing.
In John 15:5, Jesus taught: “Without me, you can do nothing.” Do you see how these words from our Lord fit in perfectly with our verse today?
Old sayings sometimes have their root in truth. One that I heard when I was a teenager was – talking about God’s guidance – “The finger that points the way is only part of the hand that meets the need.” And this is like another we’ve all heard: “Where God guides, God provides.”
There ARE times we all need strength to carry on, get through, or accomplish something HE has put before us.
What is the LORD asking you to do that you’ve either put off or avoided because you didn’t FEEL like it? Remember, HE is with you. (Say: “God is with me.”) You might quote this verse and John 15:5 again… and draw the strength you need from HIM.
Prayer: LORD, I acknowledge that I can do nothing without YOU. Thank You for the strength You offer me to do the things You want me to do. Amen.
