40 Days of Encouragement
Day 40| HEAVEN
HEAVEN
From Revelation 21
“Then I saw a new heaven and a new earth, and I heard a loud voice from the throne saying, ‘Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God. He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.’”
As I wrap up our 40 Days of Encouragement, I couldn’t think of a better Scripture to finish on than Revelation 21 about our next life.
John – who wrote Revelation – was allowed by God to see what was coming, a NEW heaven and a NEW earth. Right there, I’m encouraged! This earth – though beautiful in many places – needs a facelift! Well… the NEW is coming!
Then we’re told that God Himself will live with us! How amazing will that be, especially given that no one has seen God? (Moses came close but only saw God’s glory). Then, to have God dwelling with us is – well – unimaginable.
Then – and probably more important to most reading or listening to this devotional – God will “wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.”
We live in a world where everything is at some stage of wearing out or dying. Our cars, homes, clothes, skyscrapers, EVERYTHING is wearing out. But the Lord promises that there will be NO MORE death, pain, or crying. That is the current order of things and, from future heaven’s viewpoint, the old, passed-away order of things.
Need some encouragement? Read-read today’s verses, or better, read all of Revelation 21. That’s our future; let it encourage you today!
Prayer: LORD, I’m excited about the future you have planned for AND for You being with us. Help me remember that whenever I start getting a little cranky about this world, I need some encouragement. Amen.
