40 Days of Encouragement
Day 35 | DON’T WORRY
DON’T WORRY
Matthew 6:31-33
“So do not worry, saying, ‘What shall we eat?’ or ‘What shall we drink?’ or ‘What shall we wear?’ your heavenly Father knows that you need them. But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness, and all these things will be given to you as well.” (NIV)
Worry is a tyrant. Once we fall into worry’s trap, we get drawn in like a moth to a flame and have trouble thinking about anything else. And with 24/7 news today, there’s no END to things to worry about.
Today’s verses – from Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount – promise that our Heavenly Father KNOWS about our needs and that if we will but “seek first His kingdom and righteousness,” these things will be added to us.
So, how do we do that?
I have found it helpful to realize that God has MANY promises (like this one) in the Bible for HIS children (born-again Christians). But that many of those promises are “conditional.” Yes, they are promised, but there is often have something WE must do to realize those promises.
Here, we are told to “But seek first his kingdom and his righteousness” (then) … “all these things will be given to you as well.” (I added the “then.”)
We are called “children” for an excellent reason… because, like small human children, we often don’t know what we need or when it is required. But our Heavenly Father DOES know what we need and when.
This should encourage us all… to know that the God of the universe, our Heavenly Father, knows our needs and is capable of fulfilling those needs to overflowing.
Prayer: LORD God, thank You for the promises You have placed in the Bible, like this one. Help me to do my part and truly SEEK YOU every day. Amen.
