Day 29 | UNDER HIS WING
UNDER HIS WING
Psalm 5:11
“But let all who take refuge in you rejoice; let them ever sing for joy, and spread your protection over them, that those who love your name may exult in you.”
It's fascinating how different people are emotionally. Some can shout or cry or get angry at the drop of a hat. Others are such professional worriers that they should compete in the Olympics! But as we know, God made us all and designed us with a broad range of emotions. That's part of our SOUL, part of who we are. But there are things we can choose to do to control how we feel, act, and react. We are not slaves to our emotions.
In this verse from Psalm 5, David is talking – in song – to the Lord. He starts the psalm (one of my favorites) by asking the Lord to hear him. He's also apparently calling out to the Lord in the morning (verse 3) and confirming his commitment to keeping the Lord foremost in his mind, heart, and thinking.
Then taking a more wide-angle view, David says – in today's verse – that ALL who take refuge in the Lord will rejoice! They will sing for JOY! And then David tells us that singing will encourage the Lord to "spread His protection over them" and that they will "exult in" the Lord.
Exult means: "To rejoice greatly, be jubilant or triumphant. To leap upward, especially for joy. To be in high spirits, to triumph."
I don't know about you, but I think we all need more of that!
So, what's the KEY?
Simple: Think more about the Lord than about your "issues." Talk more to the Lord than you do texting others. Taking "refuge" in the Lord means, like a baby chick crawling under its mama's wing for protection. Ah!
Prayer: LORD, I desire your refuge. Remind me – through Your Spirit – to spend MORE time with You. Amen.
